Bound by Honor Vigilante Book 4 Audible Audio Edition Glynn Stewart Terry Mixon Jeffrey Kafer Faolan Pen Publishing Inc Books Reviews

  • Maybe I should start off by saying that my issues with this book is very much from personal taste than from any bad writing on the author’s part.

The first three books in this series, Heart of Vengeance, Oath of Vengeance and Bound by Law was great. They all got 5 out of 5 from me. They are great adventures. Pirates, revenge and action. The hero is great and the rest of the characters are just as good.

I quite like that this is something as unusual as a science fiction universe were everything takes place inside of the solar system. That’s right, no FTL! And still there are plenty of ship action as well as man to man combat on ships, space stations and various asteroids and moons in the solar system. The physics and science is believable, the fleet (small fleets but still fleets) action is great.

In short, this series ticked almost all the right boxes for me. However I could only bring myself to give this book 3 out of 5 stars. Some may say that it is an unfair rating and they are probably not entirely wrong. Still, I am not a professional reviewer and this is my personal take on and personal rating of this book.

The writing, the characters and pretty much everything I mentioned before is still there. But, the pirate adventure and revenge aspect is pretty much lost and instead been replaced by solar system wide politics, conspiracies, betrayal and so on and so forth. That stuff is really quite far from my cup of tea no matter how good the writing is.

Then we have the ending. Obviously I’m not going to spoil anything here but, again to me personally, it was a really really shitty ending. I was quite frankly pissed off by it.

So there you have it. Those not too concerned with my gripes above will probably find this book as good as the rest of them. Overall I do like the works of both of the authors so I will undoubtedly pick up the next one that comes out regardless of my issues with this one.
  • I received a free digital advanced reader's copy in exchange for my unbiased review. Then I bought the book, after reading it.
And my cash is pretty tight right now.
I say all that to say this I recommend this book as both a good and entertaining read and the sort that is smart enough to make you a slightly better person.
This was such a captivating read that I plowed through it in a day and a half, after I took care of class work. Yeah, I stayed up a little late. I tend to get hooked by these stories.
I think you should go back and start at book one, but I also think they have written a book you could enjoy as a stand alone.
I don't want to spoil any of the plot for you, but I like how some of the surprises in this book are in the world building despite us already being four books into a series that I have already really appreciated for making a single star system seem big despite so much sci-fi that makes whole groups of worlds seem uninteresting.
Anyway, I've been looking forward to another book, and I'm very glad to have read it!
  • I have followed these excellent authors books for years, and while their co-authored worried is not better than the both of of them it is a fleet equal if not better than either of them. A plot within a plot, and no one, even the plotters know the full plot save one. Our hero hates pirates, ever since they killed his family. Now all is called into question as who the enemy really is...
  • Another fun read by Terry Mixon & Glynn Stewart, full of the twists, turns and surprises that you’d expect from these authors. The adventures of Brad Madrid and the Vikings continue from contract to contract with common threads mixed in the Cadre, tense fights, loss and more hidden motives than the number of known players. How can you know who to trust when you don’t know who all the players are and can only guess at their motives? Another great read.
  • A lot of things come out of the shadows in this exciting story. There's hand to hand combat and tense action from Venus to Jupiter to Earth. A big space battle. And spies. Lots of spies.

And at the very end, a twist. I didn't see it coming.
  • Unlike other co-authored books, Glynn and Mixon manage to produce a coherent book, with enough depth and plot to make in very enjoyable.
  • Very entertaining storytelling. When betrayal comes from so many quarters, the plot can become trite very quickly. Thankfully, Bound by Honor successfully avoids this trap. This is a fast-paced read with a good balance of action and politics.
  • Good book folks. Lots of action and intrigue... and a definite twist at the end of the story. I wonder if it's true or a setup?
